Airsoft & MilSim, Claymores, Mines and Alarms

In this short video, I have put together some of the different types of "other" munitions that can be added in an Airsoft Game to increase the level of realism. As you will see, I break it down to three of the many categories that you could add, Claymores, Trip Mines and Alarms.

First off for safety, I always use heavy weight clear sewing thread. You want the tripwires to be able to break if they have enough force on the to trip someone! Never ever, ever use fishline to make your tripwire as it can and will lead to injuries as it is designed to NOT BREAK...

Claymores:

These can be purchased at most airsoft suppliers and even such places as E-Bay or Amazon and can also be made by you if you have a few basic tools and time. They are triggered by remote control, tripwire and there are even a few models that can be set off by motion sensors and lasers. The commercially made ones are designed to shoot up to 200+ BB's up to a distance of 120 or more feet. These are a bit on the
heavy side and not suited for everyday carry on the field. Where these do excel is in applications that allow you to have a little prep time to set up and are great for a kill zone across a large trail or road.

Tripwire Mines:

Tripwire mines are among my favourite ones to use! They are easy to make, small enough to carry a couple with you and almost as affective in use as a claymore. The one pictured above is made from a rat trap that has the following changes made to it:
  1. Drill two holes on the bar end of the trap, one for the stake and one for the cord.
  2. Tie a cord to the center of the jaw of the trap and put the other end threw the one hole and tie a knot on the back side of the trap. You have it tied right if the jaw is stopped just short of reaching vertical (straight up and down).
  3. Using duck tape, make a pocket in the jaw that will hold the BB's when the trap is set.
  4. Bend the end of the trigger upwards so that the trap can be tripped by a "tug" on the trigger.
  5. Give the whole trap a "dirty' coat of paint to blend in to your local fields.

Alarms:

This is one of the simplest alarms that you can make. I literally dug the parts out of the trash and off the ground to make this in under two minutes! You can use cans or plastic bottles or a combination of both and ad 4-5 small rocks to make the racket. This is one of those times where more is NOT better, so don't add any more rocks than that or it will make it too quiet. The whole idea behind this design is to come up with something that the person going down the trail wouldn't think twice about till it made lots of noise. These are great to use on the trail behind you to give you a little warning that someone is coming up on your six...

This little alarm is made out of a mousetrap, a stake with a removable tip and if you REALLY want to make it loud you can add a .22 long rifle blank under where the jaw snaps down. Drill though the trap and into the stake at the top and bottom of the trap. Attach the trap to the stake with small screws. drill another hole through the trap near the trigger. To set the trap, push the stake into the ground with the trap facing away for the "zone" you want to have the alarm on. Run the line through the back side of the alarm and tie it to the trigger. String the tripwire across the area that you want to cover and tie it off. Now set the trap! When it has been triggered, it will make a loud snap. *Note - you can also use the movement of the jaws on this one to set off the alarm above....

Electronics:
This final alarm is one that I found in the clearance bin at a local store. The critter gitter is a motion detecting alarm with a 100 dbl output. It is powered by a 9 volt battery that will allow it to be set off multiple times and it resets after 30 seconds. I have also found small alarms in the dollar store that are triggers by pulling out a "key" so I'll leave it to your imagination what you could do with this during a game....

Dollar Store Personal Alarm:
I found this for $1.00 + tax at the Dollar Tree! You pull the strap/key out of the unit and it sets off a 97 dbl siren until the key is put back in. Obviously the uses for this as a tripwire alarm are limitless.....

Padre' out...
