I bought a VFC Outer Barrel
extension, to give it a carbine length barrel; which was also worth the price.
Also, with a longer barrel, you can convert the weapon into a marksman rifle, or
the ill-fated Heat Adaptive Modular Rifle (HAMR). I would highly recommend
that, if possible, get a metal upper receiver to avoid the potential of the
stock breaking during a game.
Thoughts:
The
Classic Army Sportline SCAR-L is the cheaper alternative to the VFC, as well as
the higher end Classic Army SCAR. Though, it feels anything but cheap. For
starters, compared to the real steel version, the upper receiver on the
Sportline, is not metal. Instead it is made of polymer. This makes it lighter,
and is not noticeable unless you really look at it. The weapon is built really
well, both externally and internally. The battery housing is in the stock,
which limits available space, so an 8.6 cell nunchuck or similar is
recommended. Getting to the housing is not field friendly. You will need to
remove a hex bolt to slide the butt of the stock off. During a field test, the
upper receiver did develop a potentially major crack along a bolt that holds
the stock on.
